Nick Sandamas on a month of steady progress for Barnet FC
The Bees have so far had a fairly decent November with two wins, a draw and an FA Cup defeat. Aside from that cup defeat, the seven points out of a possible nine have maintained the Bees’ form and they remain third in an extremely tight title race as the half way mark approaches.
However as we go to press, hopefully they will have ended the month on a high with decent results in their games at both Yeovil and Hartlepool.
The first game of the month couldn’t have been any tougher with an FA Cup 1st round trip to League One Exeter City and what a thriller in Devon it turned out to be. The Grecians fought back from 3-2 down with ten minutes of normal time remaining to win 5-3 with Josh Magennis scoring a hat-trick including two penalties.
The Bees marksmen were Ryan Glover, Zak Brunt and Nicke Kabamba.
It was back to league duties the following week with fifth-placed Oldham the visitors to The Hive in front of the live TV cameras, however it was one to forget as a drab game ended 0-0, the draw also ending the Bees perfect home record.
The following Saturday saw the Bees make the short trip to East London to face Ben Strevens’ Dagenham & Redbridge side. This was a far more memorable match as the Bees fought back from a 3-1 deficit early in the second half to win 4-3.
The Daggers struck in the opening minute through Josh Umerah with Idris Kanu equalising three minutes later. Goals by Remmy Crichlow & Ryan Hall increased the lead to two but the Bees never gave up and a change in shape had the desired effect, with three goals in a twelve minute spell securing all three points. Kabamba with two penalties and Reece Browne completing the turnaround.
Then, last Saturday, mid-table Woking visited The Hive and despite the Cards making the better start, goals in each half by Browne and Bailey Hobson gave the Bees another home victory making it ten out of eleven in all competitions.
So as we enter December, the Bees have the perfect chance to stamp their authority on the race to get out of this league with three home league games against FC Halifax, Ebbsfleet and Sutton United. With Aveley first up in the FA Trophy, you would expect the Bees to fly through those games but, in football, anything is possible.
