The Skills Centre’s workshops will provide expert advice on how to repair clothing write Rana Rastegari
An Edgware organisation is offering a series of workshops to help local residents mend or alter their old or damaged clothes.
The Skills Centre‘s workshops will provide expert advice on how to repair clothing, allowing residents who are keen on learning a new skill, reducing waste or simply adding to their wardrobe, the opportunity to learn hand sewing techniques that they can continue at home.
The first session was held on Sunday 21st July and will be followed by more in September and November.
Alterations that will be taught at the centre include patching jeans, fixing holes in knitwear, taking up hems or taking in skirts. The workshop will also be offering fabric for beginners to work on, before trying out the alterations on their own clothes.
These workshops will be an addition to The Skills Centre’s regular programme of pre-employment programmes, bootcamps and apprenticeships for local residents with a desire to break into the construction industry.
The centre specialises in green construction skills and is delivered by a partnership between The Skills Centre, Ballymore and Places for London as part of a commitment to create opportunities benefiting Edgware residents.
The workshops run from 11.30am – 1pm at The Skills Centre Edgware, 158 Station Road, Edgware, HA8 7AW (the old Argos building) on September 22nd and November 24th.
